The Cadaver Synod in AD 987, held in the Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome; Le Pape Formose et Etienne VII; the ecclesiastical trial of Pope Formosus after his death; a synod convened and sat the body on a throne clad in papal vestments with a deacon to answer to charges against the deceased; Stephen was successor after Boniface VI only reigned for fifteen days; body was thrown in the Tiber but was recovered and re-buried in St Peter's
