"North Africa" in the Modern context only refers to the Maghreb region, not Egypt. Egypt is a Middle Eastern country. People tend to confuse Western Asia with the Middle East due to ignorance. Although the Majority of the Middle East is situated in Western Asia, the difference being that The Middle East includes the entirety of Egypt and Turkey(even its European part) but it excludes the Caucuses(which is in west Asia but not part of the Middle East), while West Asia excludes the Majority of Egypt, and the European part of Turkey but includes the Caucuses. The region is not continental based, but it is a geopolitical based region that means its geographical make up is based on shared politics, shared culture and shared History rather than a shared continent which many Western people fail to understand, which results in confusion about the nature of the region. The opposite region to the Middle East is called “Al Maghreb” or “Al Maghreb Al Araby”(المغرب العربي) which is the Berber region that begins with Libya and ends with Mauritania which is what people now call “North Africa” which is not really the entirety of North Africa but just these Berber states…Maghreb - Wikipedia This also causes a big confusion about the nature of Egypt because some people think that “North Africa” in the modern context refers to the entirety of the North top part of the African continent which is not the case when “North Africa” is being used in the context of “North Africa” and the “Middle East”… So context here is very important…
