Le Cercle de la rue Royale; from the collection of Baron Rodolphe Hottinguer (1835-1920), French banker and founder of the Ottoman bank; left to right: Comte de La Tour-Maubourg, Marquis de Lau, Comte de Ganay, Comte de Rochechouart, C. Vansittant, Marquis de Miramon, Baron Hottinger, Marquis de Ganay, Gaston de Saint-Maurice, Prince de Polignac, Marquis de Gallifet and Charles Haas (1833-1902); Charles Haas inspired the character of Charles Swann for Marcel Proust (1871-1922); on a balcony of the Hotel de Coislin overlooking the Place de la Concorde; each of the 12 models paid 1000 francs for the painting to be made, the final owner to be determined by a special draw. Won by Baron Hottinger (whose family co-founded the Banque de France)
